In a short time it’s the start of Ylläs-Levi Hiihto powered by Fischer! So, it’s time for last-minute tips.
For a successful skiing you will need:
1. Appropriate ski equipment. For me, this will be only my second Ylläs-Levi Hiihto and my first with free technique! The days before the race, it is worth checking how the sun warms up the tracks to ensure the right choice of skis. As it takes several hours at the fastest, the weather can vary significantly in spring.
2. Make sure you have enough energy in the days before the race. Fuel up on carbohydrates and stay hydrated. Maintain your ski feeling, but no more hard training in the last few days before the race. If possible, drink sports drinks, gels or other forms of energy you feel comfortable with during the race.
3. Dress for the weather. You may even feel cold in the beginning, as your body warms up when you start moving, thus avoiding dehydration due to excessive sweating.
4. A lot of encouragement and joy. The race route takes you through stunning fell scenery, so the views will be spectacular. Enjoy the experience and your fellow skiers. Collect your own rubbish in your backpack, the route is partly in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park!
5. After ski! Stretch your legs in good company and share experiences with other skiers! V’inkkari’s after ski awaits you at the finish line, and on Saturday there is the closing party at The game Bar in Levi at 19:00.
Good luck!
