General info about Ylläs-Levi Hiihto
Ylläs-Levi Hiihto is an annual long-distance cross-country skiing competition held in Lapland, north of Finland. It is organised in the first half of April as a two-day event. The skiing distance from Ylläsjärvi to Levi is 70 km, and there is also a shorter 55 km race. Ylläs-Levi Hiihto is part of Euroloppet tour.
Ylläs-Levi Hiihto stands out from other races with its amazing route with sceneries one won’t see anywhere else, high-level organization and by being skier-friendly with flexible terms and conditions. The race has many partners, such as Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, local municipalities Kolari and Kittilä, Fischer, Vauhti and OneWay.
Ylläs-Levi Hiihto 2025
Ylläs-Levi Hiihto is organised on spring 2025 on Friday 4th April on classic technique, and Saturday 5th April on skating (free) technique.
Accommodation and travelling
There are plenty of options to stay in the area. Finish line is in Levi, start in Ylläs. 70km race starts in Ylläsjärvi and 55km in Äkäslompolo village. Find accommodation in Levi and in Ylläs.

The area is easy to reach:
- By plane
- The nearest airport is in Kittilä (KTT), with plenty of connections. From Kittilä airport, it’s only 15min drive to Levi (also airport bus available)
- Note! Discover Airlines flies from Frankfurt directly to Kittilä on Tuesdays and Fridays during Ylläs-Levi Hiihto
- It’s also possible to fly to Rovaniemi (RVN), 170km from Levi, more information.

During the race days, there is a shuttle bus organized to the starting areas from Levi. Again, after the race, there is a bus transport back from Levi to Ylläs area. Besides, there is a shuttle from Äkäslompolo village to Ylläsjärvi, start of 70km, and other way round: from Ylläsjärvi to Äkäslompolo to 55km start.
The race offices serve both in Ylläs and Levi, and are open a day before the races.
Cross country ski areas
The Ylläs-Levi region is an excellent place for long-distance skiing, offering a variety of ski courses with over 500km of groomed trails.
In Ylläs area there is extensive network of cross-country skiing trails – some 300 kilometers of first-class and well-maintained tracks.
In Levi area the first tracks open already in early October!
Ylläs-Levi Hiihto is a snow secure event – snow conditions are guaranteed in April.
Western Lapland offers excellent snow conditions throughout the whole skiing season, which makes it the perfect place to finish the winter season.
Registration
You can register online until the start of the event. Transfer of participation and other changes to registration are easy to do.
Start, finish and parking
The 70km skiing starting point is located on the Ylläsjärvi side of fell Yllästunturi. Address: Ylläs Ski Resort Ylläsjärvi, Iso-Ylläksentie 44, Ylläsjärvi. Parking on site.
The 55km starting point is in Äkäslompolo, on the ice of lake Äkäslompolojärvi, in front of the primary school, address: Koulutie 2, Äkäslompolo. Parking: Kellokas Nature Centre, Tunturintie 54, Äkäslompolo. There is a shuttle bus between parking and start point.
Finish is in the heart of Levi, Hissitie 6, Levi.
Info about the route
Ylläs-Levi is a unique cross-country skiing challenge. The racecourses go through the beautiful Lappish fell scenery in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park from Ylläsjärvi, Äkäslompolo, Kukastunturi, Pyhäjärvi and finally heading to Levi.
70km
Along the route, two fells (Kellostapuli and Kukastunturi) are crossed. There are seven service stations. See more details.

The 55km route excludes the initial part (Kellostapuli fell) of the longer route and starts from Äkäslompolo village. Otherwise, the routes are similar, and there are five service stations. Here more information about the 55km track.
